Lab-Grown Diamonds — What You Need to Know

Rumble Diamonds

What is a
lab-grown diamond?

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond — chemically, physically, and optically identical to one pulled from the earth. The only difference is how it was made, and what you pay for it.

Same diamond. Different origin.

Lab-grown diamonds are created in a controlled environment using one of two methods — High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) or Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Both replicate the conditions deep inside the earth that form natural diamonds.

The result is a stone with the same carbon crystal structure, the same refractive index, the same sparkle. A gemologist with a loupe cannot tell the difference. Neither can a spectrometer.

How we grade our diamonds

Every Rumble diamond is independently certified and graded by a recognised gemological laboratory. We work with IGI, GIC, and NGTC — so you know exactly what you're getting before it arrives at your door.

Grading covers the four Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat weight. Our studs, for example, carry a D colour (the highest possible) and VVS1 clarity.

Frequently asked questions

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds in every scientific sense. They have the same chemical composition (pure carbon), the same crystal structure, and the same optical properties as mined diamonds.
Will my diamond lose its sparkle over time?
No. Because lab-grown diamonds share the same hardness and structure as mined diamonds, they are equally resistant to scratching and dulling. With normal care, your diamond will look the same in 50 years as it does today.
Why are lab-grown diamonds less expensive?
The cost difference comes from the supply chain, not the stone itself. Mined diamonds pass through miners, exporters, cutters, and multiple distributors before reaching a jeweller. Lab-grown diamonds have a much shorter, more efficient path — and those savings are passed on to you.
Can a jeweller tell the difference?
Not with the naked eye or a standard loupe. Specialised equipment is required to distinguish a lab-grown diamond from a mined one — and even then, only the origin differs, not the stone itself.
